Mr. Newell has spent his near 30-year career in the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries. He most recently served as Chief Operations Officer for Atara Biotherapeutics, a pioneer in allogeneic T-cell immunotherapies for patients with serious diseases including hematologic cancers, autoimmune disease and solid tumors. At Atara he oversaw Process Sciences, Manufacturing, Quality, Program Management, Alliance Management, and Enterprise Services. Prior to joining Atara, Mr. Newell held leadership roles in manufacturing, operations, supply chain and logistics for multiple industry-leading drug development and pharma services organizations, including Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Amgen, Catalent Pharma Services and Cardinal Health. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from California State Polytechnic University – Pomona.

Brody McCullough, CPA, joins CSafe Global as VP of Finance as the company begins integration of Softbox Systems following acquisition

Mr. McCullough brings more than a decade of diverse experience in accounting and finance ranging from traditional corporate finance to financial planning and analysis (FP&A), transformation and integration. McCullough began his career with EY in their assurance practice. In 2012, shortly after their IPO, McCullough joined Vantiv, a payment processing company and technology provider. During his tenure, McCullough held several finance leadership roles including establishing a global synergy governance program for the Vantiv acquisition of Worldpay, driving significant value creation for the company. When FIS acquired Worldpay in 2019, he was tapped to lead the FP&A integration with a focus on process efficiency, policy alignment and future-state organizational structure. Most recently, he served as the finance lead for FIS’ Technology Development organization.
In his new role with CSafe, McCullough will focus on driving financial and business analytics to enable strategic decisions relevant to capital planning/investment, product roadmaps, development resource capacity and demand prioritization. He will also lend his considerable expertise in the acquisition process to CSafe’s ongoing integration with Softbox Systems as part of CSafe’s senior leadership team.

The Chicago facility provides 23,000 square-feet of newly constructed warehouse space for CSafe RKN and RAP storage and operations. “Chicago is a crucial hub for a number of air cargo lanes internationally and domestically. Expanding from 7,000 to 23,000 square-feet allows us to hold and service significantly more active containers to meet current and future customer demand,” noted Tom Weir, CSafe COO.
The new Chicago service center – now the largest CSafe Global location in the United States – is fully operational and serving CSafe customers from 07:30 to 16:00 daily. CSafe Global Providing Thermal Protection for COVID-19 Vaccine Shipments from BioNTech Facility
The tailor-made double-wall VIP insulated shipper provides 10+ days of temperature protection for vaccine shipments from BioNTech’s facility with minimal dry ice.
DAYTON, Ohio, May 5, 2021 – CSafe Global, the innovation leader in active, passive parcel and cell and gene temperature-controlled container solutions for the transport of life-enhancing pharmaceuticals is honored to partner with BioNTech as the thermal shipping solution provider for Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine shipments from BioNTech’s facility in Germany. The custom thermal shipping container maintains -70°C for a minimum of 240 hours to help ensure the vaccine arrives safely at locations around the world.
The custom container uses a double wall of best-in-class Vacuum Insulated Panel (VIP) technology, a custom payload box with product vial trays with a built-in handle for simplified packing and unpacking. Thermal testing exceeded all expectations and the shipper consistently performed well beyond the 240-hour minimum. The container will maintain the desired temperature indefinitely with the addition of dry ice as needed.
“Using innovative engineering design concepts, the CSafe team was able to exceed BioNTech’s requirements for a high-performance container that will maintain -70°C for more than 10 days,” said Patrick Schafer, CSafe Global CEO. “Additionally, we were also able to reduce the amount of dry ice needed by more than 30% from our original projection by making additional tweaks to the design. The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine (BNT162b2), which is based on BioNTech’s proprietary mRNA technology, was developed by both BioNTech and Pfizer. CSafe will have 400 sqm (4305 sq. ft.) in the Guangzhou (CAN) facility. This strategic partnership with C.H. Robinson provides CSafe access to their extensive network and logistics experience. C.H. Robinson’s vast network of locations across China – including 19 of the major cities – gives CSafe the flexibility to easily expand and provide containers to customers in key locations quickly.
